Fake PR tools are very unreliable , some just pick up 301 redirects and assume fake PR, manual checking is really the only reliable means, their PR spread is fairly descent by my reckoning, much better than a lot of other directories.

It would be good to compile a list of good to ok, Australian Directories at some point

I wrote about it here , I would use a good PR checker then look for anomalies

http://seoforum.net.au/seoforum/showthread.php?t=122

using this manual check (below) or I use SeoQuake great tool when used moderately, many similar tools available , free or payed

How to check for validity of a domain and website

  1. Check Google backlinks to this website , Google backlinks sometimes take months to show so un like Yahoo Inlinks they will give you a very good idea of exactly where these links are going -- do those links go to a current pages ? or now vanished pages. if pages no longer exist discount any PageRank given to the site.
  2. Whois changes can be detected here , look for most recent changes in ownership , also IP and web hosting changes .You may have to look carefully changes may not be obvious just because the thumbnail image shows current site means nothing.
  3. The WayBackMachine This is not foolproof, material can be blocked and removed from this search engine, so don't rely on it exclusively but it may give an indication of what the sites theme was 6 to 12 moths ago .
  4. Do a domain search on Google , type : info:domain.com into the Google search engine (replace domain.com with the domain name you are interested in ) do all the given searches and look for discrepancies
